Welcome to my Lode Runner page. Lode Runner was originally created by Douglas Smith and is -- in my opinion -- one of the best computer games ever. There have been many versions of Lode Runner over the years running on anything from Apple IIs and arcade machines to the Nintendo 64 and modern PCs. The best incarnation that I have played is Lode Runner 2 with its isometric 3-D graphics and complex puzzles. It was published in 1998 by Presage and GT Interactive.
One of the greatest features of the Apple II version of Lode Runner was that it came with a level editor allowing the player to create their own levels and share them with friends. Lode Runner 2 continued that tradition and now the internet allows LR fans all over the world to share their creations with each other. Naturally, I have a few levels of my own that I would like to share.
The ZIP archives below contain a variety of levels for Lode Runner 2 that I have been working on off and on since I first got the game in 1999. A few are unfinished but included here because I put a lot of work into them and thought they were interesting even in their incomplete state. All of these levels were created on a Macintosh but should work with the Windows version of the game too. Please let me know if they do not. Also, I would appreciate your feedback if you play the levels. (And let me know if you have created any LR2 levels yourself!). Note that the email address in some of these archives is no longer valid; please use the one below to contact me.

"Eh ... What's this about computer-generated levels?"
One of the problems with level-based games like Lode Runner is that you eventually finish all of the levels. The LR editor helps this problem but in order to enjoy playing new levels, they really have to be created by someone else. In an attempt to satisfy my never-ending desire for new Lode Runner levels, I have been trying to write computer software for several years that automatically generates new random levels. My best attempt so far creates random mazes of moderate interest. These levels are not very sophisticated yet but I plan to slowly work on improving the algorithms and invent new algorithms until my computer is capable of creating truly interesting and challenging puzzles for me to solve.
My level-generating software is available for free in both executable and source code forms for Mac and Windows computers. Please check it out and send me suggestions for improvement!
I am always happy to hear from people who are using my work or to hear any suggestions that you have for improvements. Please send all feedback to the temporary email address below and I will reply from my "real" address.
THANKS!! :)
